Sedating antihistamines

Sedating antihistamines in conjunction with other therapies may help to reduce itching at night, it is the sedating effect that is useful as eczema is not a histamine releasing condition. Paste bandaging and wet wrapping are helpful at night to prevent damage from scratching, reduce itch and help heal the skin (see Protecting the skin and preventing breakdown). Behavioural approaches such as habit reversal techniques can also be useful in chronic atopic eczema.
