Less common skin conditions

It is something of a challenge to select the most common, uncommon skin conditions to include in this section. The conditions that have been included here are the ones that someone working in a general setting is most likely to see. Those working in a specialist area are likely to see all of them at some point in time. Also included in this section are some conditions which do not fit easily into any of the other sections and are actually quite common, e.g. rosacea and pityriasis rosea.

The structure of this section is to provide an outline of the disease itself; the way it presents and its pathogenesis and then to describe the treatments that are relevant to each condition, along with evidence for selection of the treatment if any is available. Any specific nursing care activities will be included in the section on treatment. This section will not repeat the information given in previous sections about the importance of considering quality of life, concordance and psycho-social impact, although of course all these issues will be pertinent.
