Tinea cruris

This is rare before puberty but is frequently seen in adolescent males and adults. Erythematous and scaly lesions extend symmetrically from the groin down the inner thigh and may contain pustules at the edges. Lesions are often very itchy. The causative fungi are either T.rubrum, T. interdigitale or E. floccosum. The last is always the cause of outbreaks in groups of sportspeople or those living in close communities with shared bathing facilities, for example boarding schools (Crawford and Hollis, 2007).
