Has the gene responsible for inherited acrodermatitis enteropathica been identified?

Yes. The responsible gene is the SLC39A4 gene, which has been localized to the chromosomal region 8q24.3. A number of different mutations of this gene, which is responsible for encoding for an intestinal zinc transporter of the ZIP family, have been identified.
