Hormonal therapies

The combined oral contraceptive pill (containing both oestrogen and progesterone) has been shown to be effective in reducing both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions in women (Strauss et al., 2007). It does not appear that one particular combined oral contraceptive pill is particularly better than any other. However, this therapeutic option is recommended for women who have acne but who also want birth control, and as such this may be a reasonable choice.
