What is onychocryptosis? Why does it occur?
Onychocryptosis represents an ingrown toenail. It occurs when the free edge of the nail plate penetrates through the
soft tissue of the nail fold. Factors that are known to precipitate or secondarily cause this condition are excessive
rotation of the toe, onycholysis along the nail margin, ill-fitting shoes, hyperhidrosis, and poor cutting (rounding the
edges) of the nails. Infection is a secondary complication. |
