Do malignant melanomas occur in the nails?

Yes, although subungual melanomas account for only 1% to 4% of all melanomas in light-skinned individuals. However, they account for 25% of melanomas occurring in black individuals, and they tend to have a worse prognosis than melanomas elsewhere on the integument.
